Have you heard this about Capstone Projects? “This is a lot of work!” “I’m graduating soon, do I really need one more class with so much work involved?” “Can I at least put this on my resume?” Capstone courses can be both overwhelming and enthralling. As students wrap up other classes, start thinking about graduation and obtaining jobs, the capstone represents the zenith of a student’s academic prowess. This session will be an examination of how capstone courses have evolved in order to facilitate 21st Century academic needs such as critical thinking, collaboration, leadership, flexibility, initiative, and social skills. After a brief overview, the session will highlight the considerations of program directors and academics when designing and implementing capstones. In the second half of the session, attendees will break into small groups to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their capstones and panelists will lead a discussion on the best steps forward.
